Dear freshmen, 
We would like you to have a comfortable and enjoyable start in Magdeburg and to discover the university and the city together. This is why the IKUS initiative (Intercultural Students), the International Office of the university and the Student Services (Studentenwerk Magdeburg) have organised the International Welcome Weeks for the summer semester 2026 for all new students. During our IKUS office hours, we will help you with any questions about the university and living in Magdeburg.

The International Office at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg is offering six graduation scholarships for international students and doctoral candidates at OVGU as part of the STIBET program of the German Academic Exchange Service e.V. (DAAD), funded by the Federal Foreign Office (AA).

Funding Period: 3 to 5 months

Scholarship Amount:

• Students: 550€ to 992€ per month
• Doctoral cadidates: 1300€ per month

Requirements:

• Acute social crisis
• Good academic achievements
• Expected completion of a university degree or Ph.D. within the next 12 months

Deadline: 29 July 2026

Required application documents:

• An informal cover letter explaining the reason for the application (describing the financial hardship, providing details on your academic progress, and information on your previous sources of funding)
• Curriculum vitae
• Students: current transcript of records; students who have already registered their bachelor's or master's thesis will be given priority in the allocation process.
• Doctoral students Statement from the academic advisor regarding the application, including an estimate of the expected date of completion of the doctoral degree
• Bank statements of the last 3 months from all accounts, if necessary, with affidavit
• If applicable: Proof of current employment (mini-jobs up to 603€ gross are permitted).

Additional information:

Students in their first and second semesters cannot be taken into consideration.

Only complete applications received by the application deadline will be considered. Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will be excluded from the selection process.
