On 4 December, from 4 pm to 9 pm, the University of Magdeburg campus will be decked out in its festive finery. Amidst the lights, lovingly decorated stalls and the tempting aromas of gingerbread and mulled wine, a festive atmosphere will take hold. Students and staff are invited to experience the winter market for the third time and get into the Christmas spirit together.
“With the winter market, we want to offer students and staff a special experience on campus in the run-up to Christmas,” says Peer Niehof, a member of the organising team and a member of the student marketing team. “Thanks to the great commitment of numerous student initiatives, there is not only mulled wine, gingerbread, waffles and other treats, but also creative hands-on activities and a varied music programme. We are particularly delighted that so many international students are taking part!”
Over 20 student initiatives and various university partners are involved in the event. The winter-themed stalls around the new student centre invite visitors to linger.
Among the participating initiatives is Campus Kombinat. “We have been supporting the Student House project for three years, from the initial ideas and designs right through to the concrete concepts,” explains Marco Dankel. “It is wonderful that the official handover to the future users – that is, students and staff – is taking place on the day of the winter market. Our vision is that the centre will become a vibrant place run by and for students, a space to try out new things, develop projects and realise potential.”
A colourful stage programme will also provide an atmospheric backdrop. “The University Big Band and musicians from the student body will provide the evening’s musical entertainment,” reports Nance Kaemmerer from the organising team. International initiatives such as the Magdeburg Indians will also contribute to the festive atmosphere with traditional dance and regional delicacies.
